Shell, the world’s fifth largest oil and gas producer is taking a deeper shot into the blockchain space as it looks to train and hire blockchain experts.
According to a job listing on its official website and LinkedIn page, Shell is looking for “blockchain analysts” for its Information Technology (IT) graduate program. Details of the job role show that successful applicants will work at Shell’s Blockchain Centre of Excellence (CoE).
The job placement reads “In this placement, you’ll gain the skills to be a successful Blockchain Analyst with us. It’s a great time to join this new team.”
Applicants for the role will be required to explore potential use cases and applications of decentralized technology (DLT) across all of Shell’s business areas, from its core – oil and gas to new interests like new energies and electric cars.
Graduate trainees will also be responsible for ideation, structuring and implementation of blockchain solutions; this will include finding new applications of other decentralized technologies not just blockchain, sale of potential use cases to the rest of the business among other duties.
The Shell blockchain job features a preference for Master’s graduates with backgrounds in mathematics, computer science, game theory, cryptography, information management and artificial intelligence (A.I).
Blockchain Jobs: A trend
Shell’s search for blockchain expertise comes as no surprise. It could be recalled that the oil giant had in November last year joined a consortium blockchain-based platform (VAKT) for trading oil and its related documentation processes on a blockchain, rather than the traditional paper-based process.
The blockchain oil-trading platform initially featured Shell and British petroleum on the consortium, with Chevron, Total and Reliance Industries joining this year.
In similar manner, LinkedIn in its Emerging Jobs Report revealed that Blockchain developer positions are the “most hired jobs” on the platform with the number of searches for blockchain expertise on the platform 33 times higher than in 2014.
